Part of my theoretical framework is built upon a theory called Internal Family Systems. Using IFS we are able to explore all of the "parts" of us, as well as our Self. Once we have a better understanding of our parts, and what they might need, we are better able to attend to them. This process helps promote integration, a truer sense of Self, and healthier ways of being in the world.
The movie Inside Out illustrates what it is like to navigate through daily life with all of our "parts." I recommend using this movie as a launchpad for discussions with your teen (and yourself!) then call me to keep the conversation going!
