What if the artist behind this canvas took two steps to the left? Six to the right? Imagine what might change. The painting might still capture the water, trees, bluff, sky, and growth- but the different perspective might yield a slight difference or a completely different result.
Therapy helps us to shift a few steps to the side, often out of our own way, to gain new perspectives, utilize different responses, and foster new realities. Often times there are disruptive components of our lives we cannot change, but we can change how we relate to them. When we shift our perspective of something, we also shift our relationship to it.
