Every 60 seconds, 50,000 photos are posted to Instagram.

Taking photos has become so ubiquitous that we often forget about how incredible of a tool it actually is.

The ability to freeze a moment in time and share it with others has only been available to us for less than 200 years. In the context of human evolution, 200 years is negligible.

The Mindful Photography Club is about rediscovering the joy and wonder of capturing a single moment of our lives because as the photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson put it, "life is once, forever."

This summer, we’re going to slow things down.

Mindful Photography Club invites you to take time to pay attention to the world around you. When we slow down to observe our environment, we start to notice things that we didn’t see before. For example, how the light interacts with the leaves of the tree to create shadows on the wall, the colors of a flower, the textures of fabric— the world is rich in detail if only we pay attention.

While we will learn about composition, framing, and the elements of a “good” photo, this is not a photography class. It’s an inclusive, intimate, and supportive space to genuinely connect with other creative teens through the art of photography.
